Friends of CLYO

Charity Registration No. 514113

All parents or guardians of musicians in the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra are Friends. The Friends' objective is to advance the musical education of children and young persons in the Leeds Metropolitan District and to promote, encourage and support all activities of the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra.

The Friends contribute to the costs of hiring concert venues, soloists' fees and other such expenses incurred by the orchestra. The Friends also promote concerts in November and May, and fund the De Boer and Paul Mountain prizes awarded by the conductor each year. Each summer the orchestra either goes on tour or has a summer school and final concert in a prestitious venue such as Ripon Cathedral. The Friends provide bursaries to ensure that all orchestra members can participate in residential conurses and tours. In 2008, this included contributions towards a tour of eastern Poland.

From time to time, the Friends contribute to other projects undertaken by the orchestra - in 2008, the Friends financed the projection of images of Scott's Antarctic Expedition during two performances of Vaughan Williams' Sinfonia Antarctica in Leeds Town Hall.

All orchestra members and Friends are encouraged to seek sponsorship for the Orchestra, as this provides the sort of regular income needed to plan the support of the orchestra through the year. If you feel able to support us, please consider joining our sponsorship scheme:
