MINUTES

ST EDMUNDS – KW is still waiting for costs of performing rights – But these are not expected to cost more than last year and we have a contingency to cover it.

FUNDRAISING

·        AW said that most of the orchestra were up for anything. DS thinks a big playing event would be great, possibly in January or february 2010. Others could have a go at conducting as part of the fun.

·        LL had suggested a garden party as a social/fundraiser. However, her garden is not convenient for most. JO suggested using Temple Newsom. The amphitheatre could be used for playing and socialising – Amy works at TN and will enquire.

·        LL is contacting Sainsburys at Colton –to find dates for more bagpacking.

·        AW reported that the Orchestra thought a barndance would be nice. This might be possible even if we had to pay for the band and hall.  Not sure how it worked last time. SW will ask the Ceilidh band if they do charity prices. One date could be this May half term. Need to ask Paul Kaiserman about West Park as a venue.

·        Town hall concert – the photos are very good. Panoramic shots. Cost price is £2, and friends could sell them for £5. DS got £1000 for the concert and the soloist was a bargain this year as he was a student. This leaves money over to pay for the photographer, and there will still be something left for funds.

·        CDs cost very little to produce. DS said the May concert is often not quite as good as summer one. However, if it is recorded anyway we can see how good it is and sell CDs to current members this season, if appropriate. Alternatively (or as well) the summer concert CD could be bought through website. People could be encouraged to preorder to ensure sales.

·        Bananamoon shirts – need to check website or get the catalogue. Some generic T shirts and hoodies would be available. The Orchestra think it would be nice to have names on the back. This could cause a security problem. If pre-ordering and pre-payment was used, then members could be given an option of with or without. They can be delivered to West Park

GIGGLESWICK – JO doesn’t know yet how much bursaries will be. So far no money has been asked for. KW said nothing paid for Selby Abbey yet. Need to check with DS what the situation is.

For next meeting – Amy to ask about council license for use of Temple Newsom park. This event could be before or after Giggleswick. Amy will also find out availability.

Next concert: 23rd May St Edmunds.

Refreshments – more Shloer recommended. KW to check previous receipt to see how much was bought last time.

WEBSITE:

·        REVIEWS – Yorkshire Post website might have review of the Town Hall concert – ask DS.

·        Could put in some of program material on website. JO will ask Simon Lindley of Leisure services if it is copyright, and get his permission.

NEXT MEETING - 1st May West Park 6:45pm
