Other CLYO Staff

CLYO is run by a group of dedicated professionals.

stephen-wildStephen Wild

After more than 20 years teaching music in Leeds, Stephen Wild is now Head of Music with ArtForms, and leads the team of teachers and instructors who spend their time in schools, music centres and CLYM groups in this great city. A horn player and accordionist, Stephen is proud to be asked to play with CLYO when vacancies arise. He also conducts the City of Leeds Youth Training Orchestra, helps out with Roots Alive and fits in as much horn teaching as time allows. In the distant past, Stephen composed music, and was delighted when CLYO performed two of his pieces.

City of Leeds Youth Music groups, of which CLYO is one, offer the best music-making opportunities to all the children and young people of Leeds. A vital part of the musical community, ArtForms is proud to manage the groups on behalf of the Leeds Music Education Partnership and the people of Leeds.

julia-breakspearJulia Breakspear

Julia is often to be seen around at CLYO rehearsals on a Friday evening.  Officially flute tutor, Julia takes on many, varied support roles for CLYO too; previous CLYO trips have seen her as course leader, deputy course leader, first aider, lost property – you name it.  Last summer she was course leader again at the CLYO residential at Repton.  Always flute tutor of course!

Going back a few years, Julia studied flute at the Royal College of Music (picking up several prizes on the way) and enjoyed playing a wide variety of music as a student; a personal highlight was playing first flute in Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe.

In 1978, Julia joined Leeds Wind Quintet, which has since become a trio – The Leeds Woodwind Trio – performing, teaching and leading workshops in schools under the umbrella of Artforms.

Julia also runs Flutes Leeds – a CLYM group that plays a wide range of music on all different types of flute: piccolo, flute, alto and bass. She has taught the flute for many years, including at Leeds University and also manages to fit in playing with various orchestras in Yorkshire on a freelance basis.

Julia is married to Howard, viola player with Opera North, and has two children who have both been members of CLYO.
